WE ARE IN DIALOGUE WITH AYŞE HASOL ERKTİN

This month, we are hosting master architect Ayşe Hasol Erktin, one of the partners of HAS Architecture in our “Dialogue” interviews on Lighting Design with our guests from different disciplines of the industry.

We talked about lighting design with Ayşe Hasol Erktin who manages various housing, office, hotel, and healthcare projects with global expertise, including Anadolu Health Center and Swissotel Grand Efes projects, during her twenty-year period under the umbrella of HAS Architecture.

1. How does light affect your lifestyle in your life, work or home?

Sunlight and moonlight are the joy of living for me. The moments when I enjoy life and get excited are the moments when the sun or the moon shines. That's why I try to spend sunny and moonlit days outside. I think well-designed artificial lighting has a similar effect on human psychology.

2. Which of the following is included in your Lighting Design project/investment? Why?

•         Science

•         Technical

•         Art

Lighting and architecture should be considered as both art and science as two complementary elements. The subject of lighting should be consciously considered in every aspect and should be resolved in terms of comfort and function, as well as aesthetics and original design. In summary, lighting design should be considered both artistically and scientifically, and the project should be qualified in both respects.

3. Do you think Architectural Lighting Design can add value to the project?

Just like outdoor design or creative structural design, lighting design can make an integral contribution to architectural design. It can help the architect achieve his goal, as well as take the architectural language to a higher level with creative and innovative approaches.

4. What do you think the process of working with the Lighting Designer contributed to you as an investor/manager?

It provides experiences such as observing eye health and human psychology in office designs, solving separate lighting needs for different users in health buildings, creating different lighting designs for patients, different for healthcare workers, and different lighting designs for companions.

As for the design of iconic spaces, our opinion was reinforced that the expertise of a lighting consultant is absolutely necessary.
