ÇEŞME MARINA

Çeşme, the holiday town of İzmir, which has made a name for itself in recent years, brings many investments with it with its increasing tourism potential. Çeşme Marina is one of the most important venues of this wave. Bringing a new perspective to the standard marina culture, the project goes beyond mere mechanical functionality with its entertainment venues that are flooded by visitors day and night.

Boat, blue sea and light...

With its small boutiques, hotels, restaurants and cafes that are compatible with and supportive of the Aegean architecture and texture, it has never gone for a locally inspired but shallow imitation look. A simple design that uses natural building materials such as stone and wood, with simple but thoughtful details, and balances the relationship between land and water.

During the project process, the regional structure and the location of the marina were of great importance. While the project was taken into consideration at the urban scale, a design that integrates and melts with the natural concept by combining with human-scale approaches was envisaged.

The size of the urban intervention to the approximately 1km coastline has also led to the creation of the silhouettes of the marina, which has a mooring capacity of 400 yachts, primarily perceived by the sea and land. In this context, for example, the dock area and warehouse areas, which do not have priority in terms of lighting design due to their function, were redesigned within the silhouette, as they are perceived from the waterfront and the sections of the marina where the restaurants and squares are located. Another parameter was to support the harmony of the marina with the city and not to separate the area from the city. It was directed towards a design that balances the light, where the light is used as much as necessary, without falling into a big contrast with the city, taking into account the comfort conditions.

Going beyond an artificial staging, the plain and sincere structure of the marina, which emerged with an amateur spirit, was also supported by lighting, and textures and colors were revealed. Low Kelvin degrees were preferred as color temperature, and colored light was not preferred, except for the reflection of the blue of the sea and a few key points that provide orientation to the marina. While the lights of Çeşme Marina gracefully reveal themselves on the sea, it invites visitors to spend pleasant hours in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere on warm Aegean evenings.
